Dr. Silas Niyonzima is a Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens in Grants Pass Oregon. Dr. Niyonzima was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), North Kivu Province. He lived in a formerly known as Gihembe Refugee Camp, located in Rwanda, for over 16 years before being resettled in Dayton, OH, United States of America.
Dr. Niyonzima Graduated from the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and worked as a Graduate Interned for Rite Aid Pharmacy before becoming the Pharmacy Manage at Walgreens.
As a someone with a refugee background, and whose life changed dramatically after obtaining a PharmD degree and starting a career in pharmacy profession, Dr. Niyonzima strives to see the same change taking place in his fellow refugees residing in USA. He understands the struggles that refugee students face while trying to adjust to cultural change and education style differences. As a Director of Higher Education and Certifications at RISE, he provides mentorship to college refugee students and help them reach both their academic and career potential. He identifies challenges those students face and explore possible solutions to overcome those challenges.
Apart from working to make his community live a better life as a pharmacist, which he enjoys greatly, Dr. Niyonzima enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. He also enjoys driving, listening to music, and playing guitar.
